Issa Rae made an audacious declaration of self-love when, in 2021, she posted a video announcing that her ‘me’ season was dawning. Her confidence gave me the spark I needed to embrace radical self-love, take up space, and “go for mine.”
My own me season is here. It is the time to prioritize my needs and desires, pour into myself, and gravitate toward what inspires, motivates and fulfills me. I will stand firm when my boundaries are tested. I will not bend or shrink myself to appease, cater to or make others feel comfortable.
It is not about being selfish, uncaring, or hateful toward anyone. Instead, stepping into a ‘me season’ means understanding that it’s OK to help yourself so that you may help others and show empathy and compassion with limits.
Flourish is the goal for me in my season. I plan to thrive in every area of my life. From advancing my career and optimizing my health to making financial gains and expanding my knowledge, I will push and grow beyond my comfort zone and take care of my mind, body, and soul. I will spend more time in my happy place, uplift myself when I’m down, celebrate my wins and turn any losses into lessons for future successes.
In my me season, my glass is half-full, and I dare anyone to try to break it.
As Issa said, “mute, block me, do whatever you need to do…it’s my time.”
Are you ready to claim what’s yours and enter your me season?
