Finding hope in challenging world

You are not alone

We are living in an extraordinarily difficult time.

Massive layoffs across industries have heightened anxiety and depression. Higher education is being attacked, and is becoming out of reach for many families. Mass shootings have created fear in going out in public.

Many people are desperate and despondent. Even those who seemingly “have it all.”

Celebrity chef Anne Burrell died on June 17. A month later, her death was ruled a suicide, caused by acute intoxication – a deadly mix of alcohol and drugs.

If you watched any of her shows on Food Network, you know Burrell had a bold look and outgoing personality, so her death was a shock.

You never know what people, no matter their walk in life, are going through, and how broken is their spirit. The sadness that hides behind jubilant smiles and wide eyes; the despair tucked deep under boisterous laughs. I know, because I’ve done it — and it’s exhausting.

But I believe in hope. And I hope that anyone who is going through turmoil finds peace in their life and a way forward.
