Not everyone is cut from the same cloth. The sooner you accept that fact, the less frustrating people will be to you.
Difficult people will try you at every turn. Today’s post-it note thought comes after a long day that left me ready to start the weekend. I spend many days coaching, directing and encouraging people with varying skill levels, motivation and commitment; some days are more satisfying than others.
It often crushes my soul to think that not everyone is an “A” player who will always bring the best version of themselves to a project. To preserve my peace (and soul), I have had to accept that everyone does not approach life and work with the same interest and passions that I do.
I’m not a rock star at what I do, but I have a high energy and enthusiasm for the work. I give my best to every task, project or initiative with a desire to be the best I can be. Instead of constantly judging others, I’ve tried to tap into the individual strengths they can bring toward the overall outcome so we can win. It has left me feeling less frustrated and defeated; that’s a win for me.
